Introduction
The Sierra Leone Fellowship of Evangelical Students (SLEFES) is committed to supporting the academic and spiritual growth of students. In line with this mission, the SLEFES Sustainable Second-year Scholarship (SSSS) Program aims to provide financial assistance to second-year students in accredited postsecondary institutions with SLEFES Christian Union who demonstrate both academic excellence and a commitment to Christian values. The program is designed to empower students to pursue their education while strengthening their influence as Christian scholars on campus, in the church, and in society. As Apostle Paul encourages us in Galatians 6:9-10, we are not to get fatigue in doing good, but to help others in need, especially fellow Christians.
The scholarship program also incorporates an innovative sustainability model where recipients are encouraged to give back to the scholarship fund after securing employment, ensuring continuity for future generations of students. This initiative not only supports students financially but also nurtures future Christian leaders who will contribute to the growth and sustainability of SLEFES and the nation of Sierra Leone
Scholarship Overview
➢ In 2025/2026 academic year, SLEFES will award 5-6 scholarships to second-year students enrolled at
TEC-accredited post secondary institutions with SLEFES Christian Unions in Sierra Leone.
➢ As the program expands and more SLEFES associates contribute, the number of scholarships will increase.
➢ Scholarships will cover tuition fees, although supplementary or departmental fees will not be included.
➢ Alongside financial support, recipients will be paired with SLEFES mentors who will guide them spiritually and academically throughout the scholarship period. The aim is to nurture well-rounded Christian scholars who will positively impact their campus, church, and community.

Expectations of Awardees
➢ The scholarship will be disbursed in two installments at the beginning of the first and second semesters.
➢ To qualify for the second installment, students must submit a progress report, including their first-semester results, and attend an interview with their assigned SLEFES mentor.
➢ Scholarship recipients are required to submit a final report at the end of the academic year.
Based on their performance, some recipients may be awarded a small stipend to assist with third-year fees.
➢ Upon graduation and securing employment, recipients are expected to contribute to the scholarship fund, ensuring its sustainability for future students.
Sustainability Model
The scholarship’s sustainability model is based on the principle of “paying it forward.” Recipients, after graduating and entering the workforce, will be encouraged to make financial contributions to the fund. This will create a self-sustaining cycle where former beneficiaries of the scholarship help new students access the same support. This initiative aims to build a strong culture of giving back and to foster unity within the SLEFES community as we all work together to support future Christian scholars.
Conclusion
The SLEFES Sustainable Second-Year Scholarship Program is an opportunity to empower needy Christian students in Sierra Leone to pursue an education that will put down deep roots in their Christian faith. These recipients are prospective leaders of the next generation of academics and scholarship. By contributing to the fund upon graduation, recipients will help ensure the sustainability of the scholarship, allowing future generations of Christian scholars to benefit from the same support.
We look forward to receiving applications from students who are passionate about their studies and their walk with Christ.
